Established in November 1989, Associated Fuel Pump Systems Corporation (AFCO) is a multinational joint venture between Robert Bosch GmbH of Germany and DENSO International America.

German businessman Robert Bosch established Robert Bosch GmbH in Stuttgart, Germany in 1886. As the company grew, a US sales office was opened in New York in 1906. A Springfield, MA manufacturing facility followed in 1910. Today, Robert Bosch GmbH has 225,000 associates with a presence in more than 50 countries on all continents, where 24,000 associates are employed in 47 locations in North America. Bosch ranks as the second largest independent automotive component supplier in the world.

DENSO’s beginnings date back to 1949, when it spun off from Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. and formed Nippondenso Co. Today, DENSO is a leading global supplier of advanced technology, systems, and components, serving all of the world’s major automakers. DENSO currently employs more than 85,000 associates in 27 countries globally. In North America, DENSO associates total 13,000 in 21 locations, including 4 engineering centers. DENSO ranks as the fourth largest automotive supplier in the world.

In 1989 both companies entered into an agreement to act as equal partners in a joint venture. This collaboration would combine advanced Japanese and German engineering and technology to produce a superior automotive product at a more competitive cost than either could do alone. This product would be a high pressure, turbine-type electric fuel pump. The joint venture would be called Associated Fuel Pump Systems Corporation (AFCO).

On June 21, 1991, with a total of eight-five associates, AFCO made its first shipment of fuel pumps to Diamond/Star Motors. Today, AFCO employs over 320 associates and is recognized as a supplier of high quality products. AFCO, whose customers include Toyota, Honda, Ford, and Daimler-Chrysler, has a history of competitive pricing and on-time delivery.
